As a professional counselor, I believe:

  • All students have the ability to learn.

  • All students have a right to a safe, mutually respectful, and supportive environment in which to learn.
  • All students have the right to be served by a school counseling program and access to a school counselor to discuss academic, career, or personal/social issues.
  • Each student is a unique individual, who has a right to acceptance and can learn self-development, self-fulfillment, and self-direction.
  • Student success and learning depends on the collaboration of students, teachers, staff, parents and community members.
  • All students' ethnic, cultural, and racial differences and special needs are to be considered in the planning and implementation of a quality school counseling program.

The vision of the counseling department at Guntersville Middle School is that all students are active, compassionate, life-long learners who are well-equipped to reach their highest standard of success. They are knowledgeable, resilient and caring adults striving to make a positive difference in their home, workplace, and global community.

Guntersville Middle School Counseling Program Mission Statement

The mission of Guntersville Middle School counseling department is to provide all students with equitable access to a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate counseling service which promotes success with an expectation of excellence. Students will be taught to treat others with fairness, justice, and respect in order to be active, compassionate, life-long learners who are well-equipped to reach their highest standard of success. Through the leadership of the school counselor, students will focus on their academic, career, and social/emotional growth which promotes the well-being of the whole child. By collaborating with counselors, students, educators, parents, and community members, the school counseling program will have the support and resources to prepare students to strive to make a positive difference in their home workplace, and global community.
